Cedarwood bedframe

Fuente Verde, Costa Rica - Design & execution

A Japanese-inspired bedframe out of rough-sawn Cedar. Made for aspiring retreat center EcoMaste, the aim was to produce a style of furniture that appeals to the many western guests, but that is hard to come by in Costa Rican shops. The minimalist aesthetic achieves just that.

Materials used

In the Costa Rican jungle Cedar trees are abundant, but fancy tools often aren't available. The challenge here was taking rough Cedar boards harvested from local trees, and using basic tools to produce crisp lines and a smooth finish. Simple interlocking pieces offer rock solid support. Cedar nails where used as a decorative finish on joinery.
